Shifting Gaze deliberately avoids most narrative constraints to navigate inside the subconscious, blurring dream, memory, and waking-life into an utterly fascinating and breathtaking sensorial experience.

Throughout the piece, the audience will experience the closeness of the characters from the most conventional image they can relate to, to the far unconventional and unseemly scene that they will have to push their emotion towards, to relate to either as a desire, a rejection or a memory. The choice is always there.

All the visuals and music composition has been created specifically for this piece. The various physical and virtual elements of Shifting Gaze create a sensorial landscape of storytelling. All the images are composed with many dimensions and layers that play with time, space, and perception. The impact is not so much in the flow, but how each image keeps unfolding into multiple journeys.

Our goal is to bridge Art, Technology, Culture and Identity. Shifting Gaze is presented in two versions: multiple channel installation for the gallery and single screen for cinemas/ art broadcast. The video-installation will be composed with projections, music and live performance. It will include, as a preparative work: cinematic art, photography, visual arts, writing/drawing animations, dance and aerial performance, voice/music. The installation will adapt to its environment, and therefore be site specific, outdoor or indoor, with architectural mapping for the projections and specific sound design.

Using a sound design installation, we will play with the viewer's senses. Does that deep breathing hail from the screen or the person behind you? Is that female voice part of the movie's plot or part of the conversation of the couple besides you? The sounds of people walking placed in strategic places - are they physically in the space or in the virtual landscape of the screen?
The music-text-voiceover of the sound installation will create a sense of intimacy. The text-portraits are all intimate scenarios; interior monologues about simulation. The replication of the image on so many video streams on the semi-circular screen keeps reminding us of its own artificiality.

The film-projection fuses physical theater, surrealism, visual elements and sound beyond the limits of the form. The piece grows out of our desire to grapple with life (being awake) as a subject. We no longer live in a world of the single tale. So the shards of stories we have put together collide here, reflecting and evolving like the act of memory itself.

Multiple stories and forms express the tense of the hypothetical, of the possible, of the non-real, but it's a territory of the senses where what we see is not what we feel. Shifting Gaze explores the relation, uncommonness and ethics of choices-desire-memory. Where are the limits of our understanding of emotions? How do we relate to the others and how do we handle the differences? It is a journey into the strangeness with the real and the unreal, combining visual images, movement, music, words and non-linear structures.

“A movement, slow, almost beautiful. The arm turning around. The hand is somehow stuck to the floor like absorbed by gravity. The full body is in harmony with the arm, suspended. Little by little, still turning, the wrist reminds more and more the discomfort, unpleasant souvenir of a pain. The angle is tiring, worrying. The bones are exceptionally showing their ends while the hand grabs the invisible dust on the floor. The arm is now contradicting the rest of the body, the shoulder talks about life and screams to let go. One finger after the other, they smash the surface still plane.
